“We do payrolls. And one of the things I did after reading Gerber is I immediately set up a payroll checklist. And this was the beginning of our book of procedures, and it was a list of how a payroll was to be done. And so if my employees did it, it was as if I had done it. So it was like a CPA had done the payroll. And I explained to them that, hey, things will screw up. Things will happen. We’ll talk about it. We’ll fix the checklist. We’ll change procedures, whatever. But if you mark something on that checklist and say, I’ve done that and you didn’t do it, you’re fired. Okay? You can do it and make a mistake, and we’ll work with it. Training, procedure, whatever. But if you tell me I did it and you didn’t do it, you’re fired. That became an absolute. You have to do the steps. You have to do the whole process. And if you do, then you’re going to give the client what they want. I’ve proven that I know how to do it. I’m an expert at it. But I’ll be honest. My staff doesn’t let me do payrolls anymore. Different software, different times. And I’d have to go back and start over to learn how to actually do the payroll. Now, what I do, there’s two things I do as CEO. First of all, I’m the tax expert. I deal with the IRS. I’m the CPA. I’m the US. Tax Court practitioner. I file the corporations and represent my clients in US. Tax Court. That’s my specialty. The other thing I do as CEO is make my employees job easier, make them more efficient, more effective, get them the tools, the training, the knowledge to do their job better and better and better” – Charles Read
